Get the Job - a success story
"Just today a colleague complimented me – saying you always dress so professional and stylish – and know what looks good on you! I appreciated the comment and mentally thanked Dani for her help and direction. Although now I don’t need the comments from others on how I look to know that I look great - it is sure nice to get those comments!
I reached out to Dani for her help to be better prepared to portray my best self for job hunting. I had job interviews but had not been offered positions I felt I was prepared and qualified for. I was left feeling insecure and uncertain about what was missing in my presentation to potential employers. On top of that was concern about a significant weight gain that had occurred over 5 years and left me with a BMI in the obese category. My clothes buying habits resulted in large amounts of money being spent in unsuccessful attempts to look and feel better. I had an overstuffed closet of items that did not suit me professionally or make the best of my features and size.
As I began to think about working with a consultant, I had many concerns – would this person be sensitive to my weight or preferences and would they be conscious and respectful to my budget and needs. I wanted help and guidance but did not want to have a style and clothes that I would not use every day and would not be true to who I am. I definitely did not want to look cookie cutter, faddish, stuck in a time warp or pressured - or look just like the consultant I selected! I wanted to be me – but a better me – where my image is professional and confident!
After considerable research and study, I chose to work with Dani. The information on her website was very helpful in my decision making process. I was able to work with her to determine exactly what I needed and how she would work with me to get me there. I came from out of state to work with her – I do not live in her metro Salt Lake area. She was accommodating to my needs – and timeline. I had job interviews coming up for jobs I really wanted!
I appreciate the effort Dani took prior to meeting face to face to prepare for our time together and to prioritize and focus on my needs. We discussed several items beforehand and she gave me great feedback and direction on what should be a focus/priority and how we would use the time I was able to have when I traveled to town.
When we final met face to face – I was very relieved and reassured. She is warm and personable – I immediately felt very at ease and comfortable with her. I was also amazed at what Dani taught me about clothing choices that fit my personal characteristics/preference, weight, and dressing to communicate messages to others (I am now always in a professional suit/dress when I have high level meetings or with doctors and administrators, and in less formal clothing when I meet with staff). Dani prepared reading and reference material for me – all very nicely organized, and I refer to and use it often. These sessions gave me the foundational understanding of concepts that would then help me choose what to buy and what to wear successfully and meet my objectives. I now have the resources and tools to be confident, deliberate and selective in my shopping and in daily clothing choices.
Dani and I also spent time in the mall together – “operationalizing” my new knowledge! She pushed me to think differently than I had previously and redirected when needed as I selected a wardrobe. We focused our time and attention on choosing clothing for job interviews. What an amazing experience it was to try on that first new outfit, using Dani’s suggestions and applying what she had taught me! I came out of the dressing room, looking in the dreaded full view mirror – to see how great I look –I felt wonderful! From that moment – I felt strong, empowered and self-assured! From that point on – it was really hard to slow me or stop me that day! That same feeling has continued even to this day!
A few weeks later – I finished 2 job interviews – and was offered both positions! I know my new confidence about my appearance and clothing selections communicated that I am smart and hardworking! One of the job positions was for a consulting job – with only phone interviews – Dani taught me to dress for those as well – helping me to have the right frame of mind that would even come through the phone in my voice!
Now several months later, I have done lots more shopping – because I have worked hard and achieved a healthier weight. One of the reasons I have been able to be successful in weight loss – is in part because of a positive view of my appearance that Dani helped me develop, which has helped fuel forward movement in my life. I use the concepts that Dani taught me every day. I waste less money on senseless, random purchases of clothing – and make better choices about what I add to my wardrobe.
I am very grateful for Dani’s coaching and support. She was a partner with me – I never felt I was doing or choosing something just because she thought it was right. I use concepts she taught to guide me daily. Making stylish clothing choices had never been something I desired or valued – years of being a stay at home mom or scrub wearing nurse – led me to adopting a belief that it didn’t really matter. I came to that point in my life that it was a barrier to successes I knew I could achieve. I am really happy that it was Dani who has helped me have more awareness and the right knowledge!"
