What is quiet luxury and why you don’t need to have old world money to adopt it

"Charmed, I'm sure." The expression that sums up the quiet luxury trend.  It is absolutely, and subtly charming. Also terribly classic. Quiet luxury is the epitome of old money, “don’t notice me” because I am subtly fabulous. We're talking about quality pieces that aren't flashy or extreme in any way.  Basically, the complete opposite of the logo-drenched check-me-out look you find on runways, fashion magazines, and urban streets. Why should you adopt this classic trend? The pieces tend to fit and flatter most figures and are appropriate for many occasions. These are pieces worth investing in because the style will last 7-10 years or more without looking dated, but they don’t have to be expensive. In fact, most people can afford to buy classic/quiet luxury styles. Here’s how to get the look without being a trust fund baby. (Be sure to check out my shopping catalog below.)

• Choose wardrobe neutral colors with a few cherry-picked jewel tones that emphasize your best colors. ​

• Create long visual lines through suits, dresses, even with monochromatic top and bottom layers.

• Look for softly tailored pieces. These are traditional blazers, shirts and trousers that keep some of their angles but lose much of their rigidity. For example, oversized blazers, wide-legged trousers, and a neutral top. Basically it’s a way to “look casual enough for the resort, yet still appropriate when hopping on a (jet) to do a deal last-minute,” according to Pure Wow editor Dana Dickey.

• Subtle accessories that are nondescript. The simplicity of a timeless necklace and earrings signal old money that doesn’t want to draw too much attention to itself, “preferring to signal its presence with understated good taste and subtle touches of ornament, if at all,” says Dickey. ​
